Check out these 6 sneaky pranks that may just catch your broker by surprise:
1) You rang?!
Leave a note on your broker’s desk with the name and number of the highest top producing agent in your area. On the note, say they called about switching brokerages and wanted to chat about joining your office.
2) Got those gift cards you asked for…

If you haven’t actually gotten one of those text messages from a scammer pretending to be your broker, you’ve probably seen other agents posting screenshots of the ones they’ve received. Have someone text you a fake thread pretending to be your broker saying they’re tied up in a meeting and need you to buy a bunch of gift cards for them, promising to pay you back later. Then go out and buy a bunch of gift cards for places you like, or could give as gifts to clients…since you’re probably not gonna get reimbursed. Bring the receipts to your broker and ask for reimbursement. When they ask why the heck you think they should pay you back, show your broker the fake text and roll up your sleeves for a fun argument.
3) “Pop” into their office
Order enough open house balloons to fill their entire office so they have to pop them just to even get into the room, let alone to their desk.
4) Asking for a friend
Casually ask your broker if you were to hypothetically leave the company, how do you go about transferring your listings and any houses you have under contract with buyers to your new brokerage. When they probe to see if you’re serious, just say it’s totally hypothetical, or you were just asking for a friend. Guaranteed it’ll be on their mind the rest of the day.
5) Can you meet it or beat it?
Tell your broker that a rival office just promised to beat your commission split and pay for all of your marketing for the next year. Who knows, maybe they’ll actually offer to meet it or beat it!
Pro tip: This one would be great to combine with #6 a few hours after you ask about moving listings and contracts to a new brokerage!
6) How many leads per month do you want to buy?
Use your broker’s name, phone number, and email address to schedule a sales call with a lead gen company saying you’re interested in buying as many leads per month as they can provide…for all of the agents in your office.
Once you hear him or her hang up the phone after successfully fending off the sales pitch, walk in and ask them to pay for a subscription to The Lighter Side’s Inner Circle membership!
