9 Songs You’ve Gotta Add to Your “Moving Day” Playlist!

Moving day can be a lot of work and stressful, but a recent survey found that almost 60% of Gen Z’ers actually enjoy the process of moving, versus a mere 20% of Baby Boomers.

What’s their secret to making the day more enjoyable? Along with meticulous planning and budgeting for their move, many of them said that they created a fun “moving day” playlist to create the perfect vibes throughout the day.

While everyone’s musical tastes are different, here are 9 moving themed songs to get your list started, and are sure to get you groovin’ while you’re movin’:

1) “Little Boxes” by Malvina Reynolds

If you were a fan of the show “Weeds” on HBO, this song will ring a bell! It’s a great one to add to the beginning of your playlist when you’re packing up the last of your things in boxes, before they get loaded into the trunk or truck.

2) “Movin’ on Up” by Ja’Net DuBois

Hopefully you’re moving to an even better place than you’re leaving behind! If so, of course the theme song from ‘The Jeffersons’ is a must have on your playlist!

3) “Moving Out (Anthony’s Song)” by Billy Joel

Cue this one up once everything is packed, and just as you’re about to shut the door on your old place once and for all, for the perfect anthemic feel as you say goodbye to your old home.

4) “On To The Next One” by Jay-Z

Put the volume up on full blast as you start pulling away from your old digs, and start driving to go to your new place. Even if you’ve never heard this one before, you’ll be singing along to the refrain by the time you pull out of your driveway.

There’s still a lot of road to cover before you’re at your new home and your moving day is done, so take it down a notch with this mellow diddy. You probably know by heart, whether you’re a country fan or not.

Your new home doesn’t actually have to be “in the middle of the street” to enjoy this song as you pull down the road you’re about to live on.

7) “Let’s Build A Home” by The White Stripes

Once you pull up to your new place, you’re going to need a second wind in order to get the second half of moving day done. This song will not only get you hyped to unload and unpack, but also to start making your new place a home.

Hopefully you won’t have to do too much cleaning in your new home, but you’ll probably have at least some to do. This children’s song probably wouldn’t have been one you’d think to add to your playlist, but it’s super catchy and will have you singing along as you tidy up and put things away!

This is the perfect song to end the day (and your playlist) with! It’ll be nearly impossible not to dance around your new living room declaring that you live there the minute this one starts playing.
