Struggling With Content for Your Real Estate Blog? Here’s a Week’s Worth of Ideas…

Blogging is something many real estate agents struggle with.

To begin with, you might wrestle with whether or not it’s even worth doing. Is blogging dead? Do people even read blogs anymore?

Then there’s the whole element of time. It’s not like you’re sitting around at your desk all day with tons of time to write amazing content.

But then you hear other agents are doing it—or you have a manager, mentor or guru telling you to blog—so you decide it’s something you oughta buckle down and do.

So you sit yourself down to write and find yourself wondering…what on earth should I even blog about?! Which brings you here, looking for ideas.

Well, if you’ve gotten as far as sitting down to write some content, the last thing we want is for you to give up on it for lack of ideas! So we put together a list to get you over the hump whenever you’re stuck. (And we’ll even give you a quicker, easier way to get your blogging done at the very end of the article.) But first, here are seven ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

1) Go beyond the listing description

Is there a cool house on the market in your area? Don’t just post the listing sheet; actually write about a listing in detail and from your point-of-view. Choose one that’ll pique a reader’s interest. What’s unique about it? Is there a good story behind the house?

2) A funny thing happened on the way to my showing…

People love a funny story, and life as an agent provides plenty of those! Give your readers a peek at what it’s like to be an agent, and a feel for who you are. Did you walk in on a naked homeowner at a showing? (Who hasn’t?!) Did autocorrect cause you to text something with a totally different thing than you meant to send? (I swear I typed DECK!!!)

It doesn’t have to be a story from your day-to-day life even. There’s always something crazy in the news related to real estate! (We know first-hand because we feature one per week in our newsletter, which you can sign up for here.) So if you don’t have a crazy story of your own, just dig around and find one to write about.

3) Post a PSA

Funny stories are great, but there are also lessons to be learned by the not-so-funny things you go through with clients. Write about how a buyer lost their dream home because they waited too long to make an offer, or how a seller lost money on the sale of their home because they overpriced it. Make sure to leave out names or specifics that may identify or offend one of your clients, but use mistakes other people have made to help your future prospects and clients avoid them when they buy or sell.

4) How’s the market?

If you had a nickel for every time someone asked you that question, right!? People are always interested in how the real estate market is, and would love to know what a local agent thinks! Is it a sellers’ market? How many houses are selling? And how fast? How are the interest rates? What’s causing buyers or sellers to act a certain way? The market’s always changing, so it’s a great topic to write about weekly, monthly, or quarterly.

5) It’s none of your business, but…

You don’t always have to write about your own business. Sure, you want to focus on real estate for the most part, but why not write about another local business? Is there a local coffee shop or restaurant where you love to eat or meet clients? Is there a store where you find the cutest housewarming gifts? Write about why you love another local business and give them a little time in the limelight on your blog. (It’s a great way to network and get referrals while you’re at it!)

6) This meme nailed it!

Did you see a funny real estate meme that made you LOL? (Of course you did if you follow The Lighter Side of Real Estate…) Your blog posts don’t all have to be long-form articles! You can just write a quick blurb around a meme you love and why it really hit home for you. It’ll give your reader a laugh and a little insight into your personality, without having to write a long piece.

7) Give ‘em a hand

Got a home hack that’ll make maintaining their house easier? Have some tips on how to prepare your home for sale? What insights do you have for first-time buyers? There are so many things you could write a helpful article about! Pick one and get writing!

Hopefully that list gets you over the hump and kick starts your writing enough to get you in the groove! Just getting yourself moving along and in the habit is half the battle.
