Buying a home is a rite of passage, and there are people who go through the process multiple times throughout their lifetimes. Even if you have a great agent, it can be a stressful process. But the end result is usually worth it, especially if you’ve been dreaming about becoming a homeowner for a long time.
Before you sign the paperwork and receive your keys, however, there are some steps you still need to go through, and none of them is as nail-biting as submitting the offer. While it can be exciting, it’s also a time when you might have some unexpected thoughts racing through your head. Here are some of them:
1. Here we go. This is it, this is the one. I hope they accept.

2. They’ll definitely accept my offer. It’s a solid bid.
This offer makes a lot of sense for them, how could they possibly say no?
3. OMG. What if someone outbids me? I don’t think I can handle that kind of rejection.
If I love this house, then it probably means there are other people who love it too. Ugh, I never thought of it that way before.
4. What if they accept and my financing falls through? Now I’m nervous.
The mortgage guy said we’re good to go, but anything can happen.
5. Ugh, I hope the house doesn’t have major problems.
Was that a water stain, or just a pattern in the flooring?
6. Why is it taking so long to hear back? Is this normal? Is something wrong?
It’s been at least twenty minutes, shouldn’t they have called by now?
7. If I don’t get this one, I’m going to take a little break from looking.
I don’t think I can go through this again anytime soon.
8. Every time my phone rings, my heart skips two beats.
It’s just one of those auto-warranty scam calls. So annoying.
9. The agent is calling me. Deep breaths. Here we go…
OMG. This is it. Fingers, toes, and legs crossed. Let’s do this.
